At least one scammer is calling Kansas City businesses claiming to be the Better Business Bureau. He says his name is Adam and that he is giving away money from the Better Business Bureau.  He is currently calling from 816-659-4792.

Early this year, Connecticut residents received calls from a BBB copycat claiming that she could help lower their mortgage rates. St. Louis residents began receiving calls from BBB copycats this year, as well.  The BBB does call businesses regarding various issues, but we never distribute prize winnings or advise on personal or business finances.

If your business or household receives a call from anyone claiming to be the Better Business Bureau, be sure to verify it by calling your local BBB office.  If you suspect you have been the victim of a copycat scam, notify the BBB and your local consumer protection agency immediately.
